چکیده

This document provides a description of the small and medium range gas flow calibration facilities at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Fluid Flow Group, as reported in NIST Special Publication 250 [1] for Test Nos. 18010C-18040C and 18050S, Flow Rate Measurements. The Fluid Flow Group can perform gas meter calibrations and special tests at flows between 3.7 x 10"^ mVmin and 1.4 mVmin (0.001 standard cubic feet per minute (scfm) and 51 scfm, reference temperature and pressure are 293.15 K and 101325 Pa) using positive displacement techniques. The flow rate of gas passing through the meter under test is determined from pressure, temperature, volume, and transit time measurements of a displaced volume of gas. Two types of displacement devices are used: mercury-sealed piston provers and bell gasometers, or bell provers. This report describes the techniques used for calibrating meters and presents the uncertainty analysis associated with such calibrations.

The Long Term Calibration Stability of Critical Flow Nozzles and Laminar Flowmeters

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has performed calibrations of gas flowmeters using piston and bell provers for three decades. Most of the meters calibrated have been either critical flow nozzles or laminar flowmeters since these meter types are generally chosen as the working standards or transfer standards by other flow calibration laboratories. Often the same meters ...

Hydrocarbon Liquid Flow Calibration Service

This document provides a description of a 2 liter hydrocarbon liquid flow calibration standard operated by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Fluid Metrology Group to provide flowmeter calibrations for customers. This facility uses a passive piston prover technique where fluid is driven by pumps while the measuring piston is pushed by the fluid over a measured length duri...

The Reduction of Uncertainties for Absolute Piston Gage Pressure Measurements in the Atmospheric Pressure Range

NIST pressure calibration services with nitrogen are now based on two transfer standard piston gages for which the effective areas have been determined by calibration with the manometer developed at NIST for gas thermometry. Root-sum-squared three sigma uncertainties for the areas for the two gages are 3.05 ppm and 4.18 ppm.

Gas compression artefacts when testing peak expiratory flow meters with mechanically-driven syringes.

Mechanically-driven syringes used to test peak expiratory flow (PEF) meters must produce the American Thoracic Society (ATS) standard waveforms with PEF accuracy of 2%. However, gas compression within the syringe could result in significant PEF inaccuracy when testing high resistance meters. The gas compression artefact was investigated in a mechanical syringe (PWG; MH Custom Design & Mfg L.C.,...

Optimization of energy consumption and offering a procedure for cooling gas compression facilities at gas compression stations

One of the most important methods of transporting natural gas in Iran and other parts of the world is the utilization of a network of pipelines. Compression station and turbo compressor units play an important role in gas supply through pipelines. One of the primary concerns in these units is the reduction of fuel consumption. By cooling of exhaust gas from the source station, the pressure ...
